Over the past couple of years the members of the BEARS project have been hard at work preparing the results of the project for publication. This March we submitted the full project volume to UCLA’s Cotsen Institute of Archaeology Press for peer review, and we’re excited that the volume has now been accepted, pending some minor revisions, for publication. It is a whopping 400,000+ words and 200+ plates of pure survey goodness. We look forward to seeing the volume published in the next year or so, depending on how things go with the press. Meanwhile, we published a pretty cool article on our discovery of an arm from the Raftis statue in the journal Hesperia just around the time we submitted the volume, so it has been solid few months for the project’s efforts to disseminate the fruits of our many efforts in Porto Rafti since 2018 indeed..
Looking to the future, we’ll also be convening several respected colleagues and prominent researchers who share our interest in the archaeology of eastern Attica for an event on resurrecting ancient rural landscapes in early October. The poster for the event is below; it should be an excellent weekend of talks with lots of opportunities to ponder the future of archaeological and cultural heritage work in this rapidly-changing coastal environment.
